About the band - Johnny Bulldog"

“Johnny Bulldog” is made up of four musicians from Whidbey Island. Johnny “Bulldog” Tristao, vocals and guitar, Kevin Johnson, lead guitar and vocals, Jimi “The Slayer” Schlegel, drums, percussion, and vocals, and Marc Strader, bass and vocals.

Johnny was lead singer of Creedence Clearwater Revisited and toured the world with them for twenty-one years. Their album “Recollection” has sold over a million and a half copies. Johnny retired in 2016 and does “Johnny Bulldog” full time. He was also lead singer and drummer of the band “People” who had a top ten hit in 1968 called “I Love You” that sold four million copies. Johnny Bulldog currently has three CD’s and a DVD on the market.

Kevin Johnson has been playing guitar for more than thirty years and was CCR’s first guitar tech. He also designed and pioneered Microsoft’s state of the art recording studios and engineered many of their commercials and film productions. Kevin is also a top-flight sound engineer and worked on the television shows “Sell This House” and “Hoarders”. Kevin engineered and mixed two of their albums and contributed to the writing of the songs.

Jimi “The Slayer” Schlegel has been a touring drummer for many years and has played nearly every venue from coast to coast. Jimi is an accomplished musician and is now the music teacher at Hillview elementary school. Jimi knows exactly what sounds and what rhythms are necessary to make the songs pop! Jimi is also a superb singer and showman. Jimi also plays with the band “Deception Connection” locally.

Marc Strader has been on “Johnny Bulldog’s” radar for years and finally managed to recruit him this year. Marc is, according to JB, a “groove machine”. He’s been playing bass for more than forty years and has a bass vocabulary rarely seen, playing any style that is needed. Marc is a top-notch singer as well, bringing soul and blues classics to the show. Marc also plays with the band “PETE” locally and has been working on the ferry system for better than 20 years.

“Johnny Bulldog” plays all styles of music including an all-acoustic “Beatles” show and has a CD out called “Hey Bulldog” featuring 15 classic Beatles songs. JB is known for their great harmonies, which makes the music much more interesting than single vocal artists.

“Johnny Bulldog” has one motto, “You get the venue, we’ll bring the party”
